Saphala Ekadashi

Lord Vishnu on the Milky Ocean

Saphala Ekadashi or Suphala Ekadashi fell on December 13, 2017, this time. This Ekadashi falls during the Krishna Paksha. If the pooja is performed properly, we can reap several benefits, as the worship removes all negativity.

We should have Satvik and light food on the night of Dashami. The next morning, we should bathe with Gangajal drops in the bathing water and wear yellow clothes. Then, we should offer arghya to the Sun with clean water mixed with a little turmeric powder, red flower and Tulasi leaves, from a copper pot, chanting Surya Mantra.

In the worship area, we have to draw ashtadala with rangoli powder mixed with turmeric powder. Place a small wooden stool on it. Spread a yellow cloth on the stool. Then, either the photo or idol of Maha Vishnu is to be placed on it. Pitambara Dhoti and vastra are to be offered to Maha Vishnu.

2 separate mud lamps with oil and ghee have to be lighted nearby. If mud lamp is not available, copper or silver lamps can be placed. Steel lamps are best avoided. Mix some whole rice grains with a drop of ghee and turmeric powder.

We have to light the lamps and take the sankalpa of our desires. Then, panchopachara or shodashopachara pooja can be performed. On that day it was a Wednesday and it was a special day of Maha Vishnu.

We will post more information about this festival in the next post.
