Trayodashi

The Triyodashi after the Vijaya Dashami is very important. The week-day, on which the Triyodashi falls, is also important. This time it fell on a Tuesday, making it important for Lord Hanuman. This timePradosha ,  also fell on this day, making it important for Lord Shiva.

Tuesday is auspicious for Lord Hanuman. Lord Hanuman is an amsha if Rudra. “Rudratmakayaay namaha,” is chanted as a prayer to Lord Hanuman, Because that day turned out to be important for both Lord Hanuman as well as Lord Shiva, it gained the status of a special day.

On this day, we have to offer red flowers and Tulasi garlands to Lord Hanuman and perform pooja with Tulasi leaves, chanting Hanuman Ashtaka, Hanuman Ashtotra, Hanuman Chalisa, Sankatmochan Hanuman Ashtaka, Bajrang Ban and Hanuman Bahuk.

We can offer sweet boondi, jaggery with roasted chana, bananas and dried grapes. In the South, we specially offer urad vada garlands. The vadas in the garland can be 9, 18, 27, 36, 54 or 108. After offering the vada garland, a few vadas have to be offered as naivedyam. We should distribute these vadas to devotees, family and friends and poor people and then partake of it. Some people, whose prayers have been answered, also offer garlands of jalebis.
