Common Winter Complaints (Part IV)

Continuing with A Journalist Reveals’ series on Common Winter Complaints, today, we are sharing an introduction about bronchitis. This is a sequel to the article on natural remedies of sinusitis. Inputs: Dr. Vinod Kumar Tiwari, head of Research and Development, Planer Herbs Lifesciences.

Bronchitis:

Before talking about bronchitis, we need to know about bronchial tubes. Bronchial tubes are air passages, extending from windpipe into the lungs. An inflammation in the bronchial tubes causes the disease. The culprit could be a virus or bacteria. Lifestyle choices like smoking can also cause it. Inhalation of chemicals and/or dust may also be the cause. Whatever the cause, the air passages become blocked by mucus and the inner lining is irritated. The mucus secretion can also increase resulting in the wet cough, typical of the disease. The problem can be acute or chronic. The predecessor of the ailment is often a common cold, rhinitis (infection of the nose) and throat.
