Precautions while doing Manicure and Pedicure

Manicure and pedicure are 2 very important beauty treatments for our limbs. Since the therapist has to touch the skin and clear the dead skin cells through tools, it is imperative that we make sure that the tools and the hands of the therapist are squeaky clean. A Journalist Reveals contacted Mr. Danish Batra, Founder, Hair Masters luxury Salon, New Delhi and Chandigarh for some precautions on these 2 treatments, which we need to take before and while taking these treatments.

He told us the following:

  1. Most nail polish removers contain chemicals that dry the nails. So, after removing nail polish apply cream if you want to let your nails get moisturized.
  2. Never cut or forcefully push back your cuticles. Always be gentle while pushing them back to prevent the infection.

Though most nail salons follow strict cleanliness and disinfection guidelines, whole visiting a salon take care of these things:

  • Check your nail technician’s experience and license, if required.
  • Check the cleanliness and sophistication of the stations.
  • Does the nail technician wash her hands between clients?

Besides, make it a point to ask how and how often they clean their tools.

  1. Shave your lower legs after getting a pedicure, not before. Shave your lower legs at least 24 hours before the pedicure treatment. Don’t pedicure in case you’ve nicked yourself during shaving because that can put your skin at risk for an infection.
  2. If you frequently go for manicures and pedicures, then you may want to purchase your own tools to use at the salon.
  3. Pedicure footbaths and filters must be thoroughly disinfected before you use them. If they aren’t cleaned well, they can encourage bacterial growth.
  4. Do not wear artificial nails to cover up nail problems as they may make them worse. You will need to spend extra bucks for refilling which is not really needed.
