Sarva Pitru Amavasya

Today’s post Sarva Pitru Amavasya talks about the new moon day during the Pitru paksha, which is dedicated to all the ancestors, whose date of death is not known. These might include one’s friends, relatives, unknown people and even fetuses which have died in the womb.

Sarva Pitru Amavasya

This Sarva Pitru Amavasya, we paid homage to our dead ancestors, friends and others. Through this post, we also like to offer tribute to some people, who used to live in our building when we were living in Goregoan, Mumbai and have recently expired. We had lost touch with them because 2 of our mobiles were stolen from our home when we had gone out. Facebook, recently, got us in touch with our friends from the building in Goregoan.

Our friends told us about the death of Mr. Kothare, Mrs. Kanta Bhatia, another Mr. Bhatia, his older son, Mrs. Vimla Kumar, Mr. Kanekar, Mr. Damodar Acharya and Mrs. Acharya. We included them in our prayers. Mr. Kothare was our well-wisher and considered me like his daughter. Mrs. Kanta Bhatia, Mr. Bhatia and Mr. Kanekar would watch for hours the Navaratri decorations that we made at home.

Mrs. Kanta Bhatia introduced us to Mrs. Vimla Kumar, who was famous in the area for Navaratri celebrations. Mrs. Vimla Kumar helped us to celebrate the festival on a grand scale. Mr. Bhatia’s wife Darshana had a sari business and I was her model. They would request me to decorate their Lord Krishna idol during Janmashtami. When they shifted from there, I began the same at our home. Mr. and Mrs. Acharya were our family friends and their daughter Bharati was my dance student.
