Mayank M Gupta’s Ekaakee Bags Awards
Ekaakee reflects the harsh reality of the most neglected issue in society. It explores the lives of elders who live all alone.
In today’s materialistic world, people don’t have time for their loved ones. The senior generation sacrifices much for the younger ones and ends up being alone when they need them most. Thus, many of us run after money and a better career away from their parents to ignore the ones, who are responsible for our presence in this world.
According to a survey, one-fourth of elderly Indians (approximately 15 million) live alone. They face problems such as a lack of family, social and financial support in day-to-day life.
The film’s unique treatment bagged several awards at various film festivals, including an official selection at the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival 2021.
The director of the film Mayank M Gupta is deeply intrigued by human behavior and the philosophy of life. He has seen lives living all alone when they desperately need someone to accompany them to take care of.
Mayank made this short film with just a team of three cast and crew – Editor BGM – Ruhi and Actor Ayub Khan, besides the Director Mayank M Gupta, himself. He hopes that the audience will find many lives similar to the protagonist Prakash in the society near them.
