Recently, I was online checking out some posts on a media group on Facebook. A morning tabloid connected to a leading broadsheet Indian newspaper requested contacts of people having annoying co-workers. I suddenly remembered that this tabloid was the perpetrator of the same crime and a journalist connected to this tabloid was asking for such stories!
This incident happened with a friend of ours. My friend is a Mass Communications Certificate holder and was hired by this tabloid for good English language, as an Assistant Editor. Post a few years’ work, she was threatened with a demotion for not having a good hold on the English language!
There was a time when educated elders would tell their kids to read newspapers to improve their language. But, today these very newspapers have worse language used in their content. Besides that, the articles are highly biased. There is always the other side of the coin. Soon, the laws of Physics are slated for a change and there might be several sides of a coin. I really wonder if the Editors are doing their jobs properly, by reading the copies.
Given the situation, the language is definitely bad in the newspapers and their websites. But, holding one person responsible is sheer injustice. So, my friend was thrown out for not having a good language. But, this girl is a go-to person in our group for tricky language issues.
This girl was thrown out due to the complaint of a disgusting wayward woman, who wants to have sex with every man she sees. Her bosses did not even bother to find out the truth. The real reason is, my friend has grown obese due to hypothyroid and pregnancy. Not everybody is able to maintain their figure. There are several issues that come into play.
I wonder if co-workers know what is happening in others’ personal lives. The job they are doing might be of importance to them. Not all girls go to work to pass time. My friend was out of work for 4 years and was divorced because she was thrown out of the prestigious job. Now, she is fending for herself and her teenage child. Can the tabloid compensate for what happened in my friend’s life?
