Srinivasa Kalyanam (Part VII)

Lord Srinivasa needed a place to live and Lord Varaha agreed to give the former the land on the mountain. In return for a 100-foot plot of land, Lord Srinivasa declared that every offering and milk abhisheka would be performed for Lord Varaha, first and then for Himself. In addition to the place to stay, Lord Varaha sent His own servant, Vakuladevi, to take care of Lord Venkatesha. Vakuladevi was Yashodha in her previous birth. She had missed attending Lord Krishna’s wedding. So, she had returned in this birth to fulfil her desire.

In the meantime, the Lord wanted to plan for His wedding with Padmavati, which was the main reason for His avatar at this point. He had made all the arrangements when He had been Lord Vishnu. Previously, a wayward Brahmin called Madhava had forgotten his regular duties as he was attracted to many women. As he was wandering, he suddenly reached Tirupati’s Pushkarni (sacred pond) and saw many people offering their obeisance to their ancestors. He also offered his prayers to his ancestors by making a pinda of mud at the bank of the pond. Lord Vishnu was watching him and was moved by his offering. Thus, the brahmin’s sins evaporated in that very place as he set foot on Venkatadri, due to the grace of his dead ancestors. Lord Srinivasa appeared before the brahmin as a result and gave him the boon that He would come to him as his Son-in-law in his next birth. Similarly, Rangadasa, another of His devotees, got the boon that He would come to him as a relative.

The brahmin, Madhava, was born as King Akasharaja and Rangadasa was born as the King’s younger brother, Tondamanaraja. These brothers belonged to the lineage of Pandavas’ girl children and were the sons of Suveeran’s son, Sudharman. As He was helpful to the Pandavas in the form of Lord Krishna, He was going to become related to these brothers in this birth as Lord Srinivasa to uplift their family lineage.
