There is much significance associated with Sheshachala. During Krita Yoga, Vrishabhasura performed penance with Lord Narasimha in mind, wanting to fight with the Lord. The Asura eventually achieved his desire. Thus, the mountain took the name Vrishabhadri from the Asura.

During the Treta Yuga, Lord Hanuman was born on this mountain and the sacred mountain took the name Anjanadri from His mother, Anjana’s name. In Dvapara Yuga; Snake Ananta and Lord Vayu took to a contest of strength. Sesha (Ananta) won the contest and the mountain came to be known as Sheshadri.

When Lord Vishnu (in the form of Venkatesha) came looking for a place to stay on this mountain, it came to be known as Venkatadri. He made the snake-pit below the tamarind tree as His abode.

By then, the 28th Kali Yuga had begun. During that time, the country was being ruled by a Chola King. Right then, for the continuation of events, the Supreme Lord, Who is the Creator, let certain incidents happen. Goddess Lakshmi brought a cow (Brahma) and a calf (Lord Shiva), to search for Her Husband and sold the cattle to the Chola King.

The Chola Queen noticed that there is not enough milk for the little prince and she scolded the cowherd for it. The cow had poured its entire milk into a snake-pit. How can any milk remain for the prince?
