Srinivasa Kalyanam (Part XII)

Then, the wedding rituals began. Each deva was given a job to do and the Lord made them serve Him this way. The Lord’s wedding procession proceeded toward Narayanapura.

The amazing members on the groom’s side consisted of the fascinating Lord Srinivasa and the crowd of the devas and the sages. The citizens of Narayanapura were amazed at the different rituals performed by the groom’s side for the wedding. The groom’s side accepted the food served by the bride’s side happily. At the same time, the wedding rituals commenced. King Akasharaja welcomed, with fanfare, the Lord, who had come with Goddess Lakshmi. The devas also participated in the rituals. The wedding took place under the supervision of Brahma. This was the wedding of the Father and Mother of the cosmos!

As the pandit chanted the mantras, King Akasharaja wedded his Daughter to the Lord. There were tears in the eyes of Dharanidevi, who requested Goddess Lakshmi to care for her Daughter. Akasharaja, Dharanidevi, Tondamana and the priest of the kingdom worshipped the Lord with different stothras. The Lord, who regulates the cosmos, blessed them. After 5 days of the wedding, the devas began to return to their own abodes.

The Lord stayed in the ashram at the foot of the mountain, with Padmavati, for a few days. Post that, the Lord went to Venkatadri to stay there permanently. The Lord still dwells for His devotees, who always trust Him, at Tirumala, which is called the Vaikuntha of Kaliyuga. Shri Hari becomes the main deity of several homes and accepts His devotees’ worship. Even now, He is present as a savior with Abhaya hasta, soothing His dejected followers.

Several devotees sing the praises of Lord Srinivasa by narrating Srinivasa Kalyanam in a poetic format. Every time we listen to this story, we feel happy and it seems new. On hearing His name being chanted by His devotees, the Lord is as elated as a mother makes her child repeat the word – mother.
