Lord Srinivasa reveals the divine connection between Princess Padmavati and Maya Sita (Vedavati) from the Ramayana. To fulfil a cosmic promise, the Lord disguises Himself as a gypsy woman and, accompanied by Brahma as a child, sets off for Narayanapura to propose marriage to Padmavati.
Srinivasa Kalyanam (Part IX)
Here Lord Srinivasa informs us about the background of Padmavati.
“When I had taken the incarnation of Rama, Sita was destined to be abducted by Ravana. I gave Her for safekeeping to Agni and Agni created a Maya Sita, who stayed the duration in Lanka in captivity. When Maya Sita entered the fire for testing her chastity after her rescue post the killing of Ravana, the real Sita also came out of the fire with her. At that point, the real Sita, who was at Kailasha praying to Lord Shiva and Parvathy during this time, told Me to marry the Maya Sita. I could not do it in that birth because I had taken the vow of one wife. But I promised Her that I would marry Maya Sita or Vedavati when I would incarnate as Lord Srinivasa. That Maya Sita was born as Padmavati in this birth.”
Post that, Lord Srinivasa gave Vakuladevi directions to Narayanapura, where King Akasharaja lived in his palace. The Lord told her to meet the queen, Dharanidevi, with His proposal for marriage to Padmavati. He realized that efforts by one person may not yield results. So, He took on the guise of a gypsy woman and made toward Narayanapura. The Lord of the cosmos took on the guise of an old woman of 50 and Brahma took on the guise of a 7-month sick infant. The Lord placed Brahma in the guise of a child inside a sari, hung across His shoulders. He reached the city, telling everyone that ‘He’ is a gypsy predicting the future.
