The Hospital That Refused to Treat – Chapter 51
Chapter 51: The Password
Anita pulled a small key from her coat.
Mahesh stared at it.
“Where is it?”
“Somewhere you couldn’t find it.”
Joseph stepped closer.
“Anita, what happened to Aditya that night?”
She looked towards the police officers.
“He was injured, but he was conscious. He kept asking for his laptop.”
Shalini remembered the young man lying on the wet road, struggling to speak.
“What happened after I saw him?”
“They took him downstairs.”
“To the hidden level?”
Anita nodded.
Mahesh interrupted.
“I wasn’t there.”
“But you knew,” Anita snapped.
A police officer moved between them.
“Continue.”
“They wanted Aditya’s password. He refused.”
“And then?” Joseph asked.
Anita’s voice faltered.
“The administrator ordered a sedative.”
Shalini felt cold.
“Was it dangerous?”
“Not by itself. But Aditya had suffered head injuries. His condition deteriorated.”
“Did anyone call a specialist?”
“I tried.”
Anita looked towards the administrator.
“He stopped me.”
The administrator shook his head.
“She’s lying.”
“You cancelled the emergency alert.”
“Prove it.”
“I can.”
The words silenced him.
Anita held up the key.
“I copied the nursing log before you deleted it.”

Joseph looked at Mahesh.
“So Aditya wasn’t deliberately killed.”
“No,” Anita said. “But when he collapsed, they didn’t save him.”
“Because treating him would expose where they’d taken him,” Shalini said.
Anita nodded.
For several seconds, nobody spoke.
Then Joseph asked the question Shalini had been dreading.
“Where is Aditya’s laptop?”

“A railway-station locker.”
“And the key?”
Anita opened her hand.
The small metal key lay on her palm.
Mahesh suddenly broke free from the officer beside him.
He lunged.
Not at Anita.
At the key.
Prakash caught his arm.
The key fell.
Joseph grabbed it first.
Mahesh stopped fighting.
Joseph stared at him.
“You said you wanted everything exposed.”
Mahesh’s face had gone pale.
“I do.”
“Then why are you afraid of what’s on this computer?”
Mahesh looked at the key.
“Because Aditya didn’t only find the hospital network.”
“What else did he find?”
Mahesh slowly raised his eyes.
“Me.”
