Chapter 58: Ramesh’s Secret
Joseph opened his notebook.
“What about the case eight years ago?”
The officer turned another page.
“That was where Ramesh first became suspicious.”
A patient had questioned discrepancies in his hospital records. During the inquiry, Ramesh saw documents being altered.
The hospital blamed clerical mistakes.
The case disappeared.
Ramesh didn’t forget.
“He started investigating?” Ganpat asked.
“Yes.”
That explained why Ramesh had asked Ganpat about the old security system.
“But why does the computer show Ramesh using my credentials?”
“He discovered your retired employee code was still active. He used it to enter the hidden level without creating a record under his own name.”
Ganpat shook his head.
“And I never knew.”
Joseph looked towards Suresh, who had been questioned separately.
“What about the missing eleven minutes from Ramesh’s cassette?”
“Suresh cut them.”

“To protect his brother?”
“Only partly.”
By then, Suresh was already involved in altering hospital records.
Ramesh’s recording named him.
It also named Mahesh.
“So, Suresh protected himself,” Shalini said.
“Yes.”
“And Ramesh’s death?”
“Natural causes. We found no evidence that he was killed.”
Shalini turned to Lata.
“The man who came after his funeral?”
“The administrator,” the officer replied. “Suresh sent him to recover anything Ramesh had kept.”
“And the tall man outside?”
“One of Suresh’s drivers.”
Joseph remembered the old register.
“The torn signature?”
“The administrator removed it.”
“What about the impression Meera found? The letters ending in ‘kar’?”
“His surname is Tendulkar.”
Prakash stared at him.
“So we spent all that time wondering whose name ended in ‘kar’…”
“And assumed it belonged to someone more important,” Joseph finished.
The officer nodded.
“The missing emergency file was more important. It contained handwritten corrections showing that patient identities had been changed.”
Ramesh had seen the beginning of the fraud.
Then he had done something nobody expected.
He had kept the originals.
