Chapter 57: What Happened to Aditya
Two weeks after the warehouse raid, Shalini, Joseph, Prakash, Ganpat and Anita were called to the police station.
An officer placed a thick file on the table.
“We know what happened that night.”
Shalini leaned forward.
“Start with Aditya.”
“His software detected the same patient identities being used across several hospitals. Different treatments. Different doctors. Different insurance claims.”

Anita nodded.
“He contacted me because he suspected someone inside City Care was altering records.”
“Who caused the accident?” Joseph asked.
“Suresh had Aditya followed. His men were supposed to stop him and recover his laptop.”
“The dark blue sedan?” Shalini asked.
“Yes. Its driver forced Aditya’s motorcycle off the road.”
“So they wanted him dead?”
“No. They needed his password.”
Shalini remembered kneeling beside Aditya in the rain.
“He was conscious.”
“Which became a problem for them.”
The administrator discovered that Shalini had spoken to Aditya. He later sent the disappearing message warning her to stop asking questions.
“The sedan followed us too,” Joseph said.
“Suresh’s men used it for surveillance. They took the photographs and sent the threats.”
“And the second ambulance?” Prakash asked.
“It brought men connected with the hidden level.”
Shalini hesitated.
“The stretcher I saw leaving through the unusual corridor?”
The officer looked at Anita.
She answered.
“Aditya.”
Shalini went still.
“They moved him downstairs after you saw him. They wanted the laptop password.”

“And when his condition worsened?”
“The administrator refused to call the specialist.”
Anita’s voice dropped.
“After Aditya died, they moved his body upstairs again so the records would show he had never left emergency care.”
“The newspaper said he had been unconscious.”
“The hospital supplied that information,” Joseph said.
Anita nodded.
“If people knew Aditya had been conscious, someone might ask what he had said.”
Shalini finally understood.
The first lie had never been about how Aditya died.
It was about making sure nobody knew he had been able to speak.
