Srinivasa Kalyanam (Part VIII)

King Akasharaja was full of sadness because he did not have any children. On recommendation from his family Guru, he decided to perform a yagna. For the purpose, as he plowed the fields with a gold plow, he found a beautiful female infant lying on a large lotus. Elders advised him to name the little girl as Padmavati. After this girl was found by the king, he and his wife begot a son. They called him Vasudhana. As Padmavati grew older, the king began thinking about Her wedding.

Padmavati went to the palace garden with her friends to pluck flowers. Sage Narada came that way and held Her hand with the excuse of reading Her palm. He informed Her that She had the features of Goddess Lakshmi and only Lord Srinivasa would wed her. The sage described the appearance of Mahalakshmi with a lot of piety. When Narada left the garden, Lord Venkatesha came there chasing an elephant, intoxicated by fermented mahua flowers, like a huntsman, on horseback.

Padmavati, who was gathering flowers with Her friends, told one of them to find out more about the Stranger. He told them about His antecedents and asked them about their Friend. Then, He told Her to go along with Him. Padmavati got angry with the strange Person. She and her friends threw stones at Him. As a result, His horse got wounded and killed. Himself hurt, Lord Srinivasa returned to His abode and, acting as though sad, He mentioned about Padmavati to Vakuladevi, who was worried about the Lord. He also told her that Padmavati was the right Consort for Him and requested her to get Him married to Her.
