The Hospital That Refused to Treat – Chapter 45

Chapter 45: Before Midnight

“We’re not going inside that warehouse,” Joseph said as they hurried downstairs.

Prakash glanced at him. “Then why are we going?”

“To watch.”

“And if they start moving people?”

Joseph didn’t answer.

They left Ganpat at a nearby clinic. His wrists needed treatment and after what had happened, Shalini refused to let him accompany them.

By eleven, she, Joseph and Prakash were in a taxi near the eastern highway.

They got out well before the warehouse and approached through a row of closed workshops.

The metal gate was open.

Two Silver Care vans stood inside.

“Someone’s leaving,” Shalini whispered.

Joseph took out his phone and began recording.

Men carried boxes from the warehouse into the first van.

PATIENT RECORD ARCHIVE.

The same label they had seen before.

Then the warehouse door opened again.

A woman emerged between two men.

She wasn’t on a stretcher.

She was walking.

Unsteadily.

Shalini grabbed Joseph’s arm.

“That’s Anita.”

Joseph stared.

The missing nurse looked thinner, but there was no mistaking her.

Prakash moved forward.

Joseph pulled him back.

“Not yet.”

Another person was brought out.

An elderly man.

“Harish Vora,” Shalini whispered.

The dead man was alive.

Joseph kept filming.

A third van entered the compound.

Its headlights swept across the workshops.

“Down!”

They ducked behind a parked truck.

The van stopped.

A man stepped out.

Shalini recognised him immediately.

The hospital administrator.

He spoke sharply to someone near the gate.

“Everything goes tonight. No records left behind.”

Joseph’s phone captured every word.

Then a metallic clang sounded behind them.

Prakash had accidentally kicked an empty tin.

The administrator turned.

“Who’s there?”

Two men ran towards the truck.

“Move!” Joseph shouted.

They sprinted between the workshops.

Footsteps followed.

Shalini’s lungs burned.

Ahead, Prakash stopped suddenly.

A man was blocking their escape.

Joseph raised his phone, ready to call the police.

Then Shalini recognised the man.

Mahesh Sawant.

“Don’t,” Mahesh said.

“Come with me if you want to know why Harish Vora had to die twice.”
