Srinivasa Kalyanam (Part VI)

Having followed the cow, the cowherd observed it was pouring the milk into a snake-pit, which, according to him, was a waste. Angry, he was about to kill the cow with the ax, he was holding in his hand, when Lord Venkatesha appeared before him to accept the strike of the ax. He bled with blood spurted to the height of 7 kevda plants. On seeing this, the cowherd got a heart attack and died on the spot.

A man accompanying the cowherd informed the King about what had happened. The King immediately went to see it for himself. Lord Venkatesha appeared before him and cursed him that he would become a pishacha (ghost) because part of the sins committed by the subjects go to the king. The King pleaded with the Lord in several ways. Pleased, the Lord told him the way to salvation. In the later days, King Akasharaja would offer a crown to the Lord when the Lord would marry the King’s daughter, Padmavati. The Lord would wear the crown on Friday for 6 hours and thus the Chola King would find salvation from his sins. There is always a reason for whatever He does.

To find a remedy for the bleeding wound on His forehead, Lord Venkatesha contacted Sage Brihaspati, who suggested a lasting herbal remedy.

While Lord Srinivasa (Lord Venkatesha) looked for the herbs to heal his wound, He found Lord Varaha, the killer of Vrishabhasura. Lord Varaha asked Him the reason for His coming there, commenting, “What an irony!”

Maya matramidam dvaitvam adhvaitam paramarthaha – There is no difference between the Lord’s avatars, according to the Upanishads. This is the greatest example of the above.
