Chapter 42: Where Is Ganpat?
Joseph immediately called Ganpat back.
Switched off.
“We call the police,” Shalini said.
“And tell them what?” Joseph replied. “That an unknown man used Ganpat’s phone? We don’t even know if he’s been abducted.”
“We know he’s in trouble.”
Prakash was already reaching for his keys.
“The hospital.”
“No car,” Joseph said. “They know yours.”
They took a taxi and got out two streets away from City Care.
The rear gate was deserted.
No Ganpat.
No Silver Care van.
Joseph spotted something near the pavement.
Ganpat’s newspaper.
Beside it lay a broken pair of spectacles.

Shalini picked them up.
“They’re his.”
Joseph’s expression hardened.
“Now we call the police.”
Before he could dial, Prakash pointed towards the gate.
“Look.”
A security camera above them slowly turned in their direction.
“Move,” Joseph said.
They crossed the road and entered the tea stall.
The owner recognised them immediately.
“We’re looking for Ganpat,” Shalini said.
The man’s face changed.
“He left.”
“With whom?”
“I don’t know. Two men came.”
“Did they force him?”
“No. They spoke to him. Then he got into their car.”
“What car?”
The owner hesitated.
“Dark blue.”
Joseph and Shalini exchanged a look.
The sedan.
“Which direction?”
“Towards the highway.”
The warehouse.
Prakash stood.
“We’re going there.”
Joseph grabbed his arm.
“That’s exactly where they want us.”
“Then what do you suggest?”
Before Joseph could answer, Shalini’s phone buzzed.
A message.
This time, there was no photograph.
Only an address.
Joseph read it twice.
“That’s not the warehouse.”
Prakash looked over his shoulder.
“Then where is it?”
Joseph searched the location on his phone.
An old residential building appeared.
Shalini frowned.
“Who lives there?”
Joseph stared at the screen.
“I know that address.”
“Whose is it?”
His face had gone pale.
“Mahesh Sawant.”
At that moment, another message appeared.
Come alone if you want Ganpat alive.
Shalini looked at Joseph.
Someone wasn’t merely threatening them anymore.
Someone was directing the investigation.
