Srinivasa Kalyanam (Part III)

Several sacred texts extoll the significance of Srinivasa Kalyanam. The narrative in the Bhavishyottara Puranam has an important place among them. Here, the holiness of the 7 hills of Thirupati, the exuberance of the descent of Lord Srinivasa in human form on earth, His leelas, His wedding and the importance of the incarnation have been described. This story was initially narrated by Sage Shatanand to King Janaka. The same story was handed down by Sage Suta to the Sages Shaunaka and others.

The story goes thus:

Some sages decided to perform a yagna on the banks of the River Ganga. As they were discussing, Sage Narada came by and asked the sages which God would be suitable to offer the fruits of the yagna. The sages also showed curiosity about this matter and discussed it. The sages decided that Sage Brigu would be the right person to find the right candidate among Brahma, Hari and Hara, to be given the fruits of the yagna. So, Sage Brigu left for his mission.

When Sage Brigu entered Brahmaloka, he was given a warm welcome due to him. But Sage Brigu felt that Lord Brahma exhibited His pride that He had all the knowledge. Sage Brigu decided that Lord Brahma was not worthy of the fruits of the yagna and left for Kailasha.
