Often we find people, who follow their passion, come what may. Deepika T is one of those people. Though she is a software engineer, she follows her passion, i.e. singing. I found Deepika on Linkedin. Immediately I struck up a conversation and told her we at A Journalist Reveals would be interested in her interview. She complied and this is what she had to say to our questions:
Tell us about your childhood.
I was born in Belgaum, Karnataka. I had a wonderful childhood full of learning. I started learning Carnatic music at the tender age of 8. I won at various national level competitions and excelled in my studies too. I participated in NCC national level shooting competition. And got silver medal at New Delhi. I was also good at education and wanted to become an Engineer too. I completed my engineering in electronics and communication and then shifted to Bangalore to work for a software company.
Training in singing?
I am classically trained in Carnatic and Hindustani music.
Is singing your main career?
Singing is my career along with my IT profession.
What or who inspired you to take up singing besides being a software engineer?
My Mother Radha inspired me to take up singing as well as engineering as a career.
Which was your debut movie in singing? How did you get it?
Rangitaranga was my debut in Kannada film industry and I referred by musicians of the Agam Band.
What do you think are landmark Bollywood songs?
I always loved singing Lata Mangeshkar songs from childhood and I think most of her songs are landmark songs to me. My favourite song is Satyam Shivam Sundaram.
What projects are you presently working on?
My present project is a Hindi album project with Faraz Khosa, a Pakistan-based composer.
What do you see 10 years hence?
I go where God leads me. I believe that one must follow one’s dreams and God takes care of the rest.
What do you do in your free time?
I am learning Acro Yoga and I love spending time doing Yoga, reading spiritual books and working out at the Gym.
