Shani Amavasya fell on November 18 this year. In any case, Amavasya is a powerful day. But, Amavasya gains more importance due to its falling on a Saturday. At the same time, this day was very auspicious because Shani was looking at Mars on that day. This day is celebrated as Shani Jayanti in Shani temples with Bhandara (Annadana).
People often offer tarpanas to their pitrus on Amavasya and it is more auspicious on Shani Amavasya. Some people say if someone dies on a Saturday, it is inauspicious for the family and that there will also be another death in the family. We do not know if this is a myth or fact. But, if people offer tarpanas on this day, even the negativity of unknown pitrus, who might have died on a Saturday, is also removed.
We will share information on Shani Worship in the next post.
