This story happened in Dwapar Yuga. Valorous King Bhadrashava ruled the country of Saurashtra. He was well-versed in the 4 Vedas, 6 shastras and 18 Puranas. His queen was Shuratchandrika. She was beautiful with chiseled looks and was loyal to her husband. The couple had 8 children – 7 sons and 1 daughter. The princess was called Shyambala.
One day, Goddess Lakshmi decided to go and live in the king’s palace, so that the king could keep his subjects happy and contented. She thought if She would live in a poor family, the head of the family would be selfish and use the money for his family. Therefore, She took the guise of an old Brahmin woman, walking with a stick in her hand and went to the Queen Shuratchandrika’s palace. She stood in front of the palace.
