Proteins are the building blocks of our body. We have studied this in school. Besides carbohydrates and fats, proteins are the most important macro-nutrients. Many Indians have protein-deficiency, which needs to be corrected to live a healthy life. The Indian Council for Medical Research recommends between 50 to 70 g of protein per day as the recommended daily allowance. We need adequate amounts of protein to enable our body to perform several functions. Scientific studies have shown that protein isn’t just great for muscle mass, but for staying satiated and boosting metabolism, as well. Unfortunately, research has it that 9 out of 10 Indians have a diet deficient in proteins. This is due to both, access to a diet with insufficient protein as well as several myths surrounding protein consumption. Through this article, we will try to dispel the myths surrounding protein consumption.
