The Sanmarg and Salt Lake Sanskritik Sansad continued their tradition of burning the Ravana effigy again this year at the Central Park (Salt Lake), Kolkata. The event – Ravana Effigy burnt – was a reflection of the rich cultural heritage and tradition of West Bengal. Devotees thronged the event in thousands of numbers.
The committee burnt the Demon King Ravana’s effigy on this Dussehra. This is an annual ritual in the Northern part of India. It is common to burn the effigies of Ravana on bonfires in the evening. The day also marks the immersion of the Goddess Durga idols in large bodies of water.
