I wrote this story, The Scam in Junior College, in 2013 and think this is the right time to post it on A Journalist Reveals. This is also one of the stories I wrote based on a real incident. Here’s the third part.
The Scam in Junior College (Part III)
Gauri continued, “In fact, the owner got a woman achiever award recently. She actually treats us teachers worse than dirt. To think of it, I find it ridiculous. The classroom is so stuffy. There is only one window. The students pay exorbitant fees but get benches made for primary school students. Though we are lecturers, the principal and the staff supervisor call us teachers and the students are encouraged to call us Miss. Only the principal, staff supervisor and 2 other lecturers are already permanent to continue the scam for the owners. The 3-year contract system has become very convenient thing for them to continue their nefarious activities. Nobody is allowed to become permanent there. Otherwise, they would have to pay everybody according to the pay commission directives. We were all finger-printed like criminals. And do you know what the man, who is the in charge of the teachers’ lockers, said to me when I returned the keys. He asked me ‘where is the lock?’ when the lock is built into the locker. I felt so dirty,” she looked disgusted.
“I am sure there is something fishy about everything out there. Ok. I need to speak to the editor and let me see what I can do.”
