Yesterday was the birthday of Amitabh Bachchan’s father. Most people know late Harivansh Rai Bachchan as being a rebellious poet and for his Madhushala. I for one remember him from my school days more for his poem Dhoolimay nabh kya isise bandhdoon mein naav tat par… (There is a cloud of dust in the sky. But why should I tie back the boat I wanted to ride?) and Ve bargad ke ped…(Those banyan trees.)
I was not very good in Hindi. Still I am not. But the way these poems were explained to me by our teacher, they stuck to me forever. Though I don’t remember the rest of the poems and the later part of these 2 too, I can still remember the feeling I had when I heard them.
Particularly the first poem has been very inspiring in my life. Whenever there were clouds of uncertainity, I remember those lines.

These poems are so relevant in these times, too. The second poem talks about the rebellious next generation, who do not see the benefits they already have.
Unfortunately, I have not seen either of the poems on the net. Very disappointing! Hope someone does something about this.
