The Hospital That Refused to Treat- Part 10
Chapter 10: Questions Without Answers
The following morning, Shalini left home earlier than usual.
She tucked the newspaper clipping into her handbag before locking the front door.
Instead of taking her regular walk to the park, she headed for the small tea stall opposite the hospital.
The place was already busy.
Taxi drivers chatted over steaming cups of tea, while hospital attendants came and went between shifts.
Shalini ordered a cup of tea and quietly observed the entrance to the hospital.
Everything looked perfectly normal.
Patients arrived.
Ambulances came and went.
Doctors hurried through the revolving doors.
It was difficult to believe that anything unusual had happened there just two nights earlier.
As she finished her tea, she walked over to the newspaper stand nearby.
“Do you know anything about the young man who died in the accident the other night?” she asked the vendor.
He looked up from arranging magazines.
“The biker?”
Shalini nodded.
“I heard he died at the hospital.”
“So that’s all you know?”
The vendor shrugged.
“People talked about it for a day. Then everyone moved on.”
She thanked him and turned to leave.
Just then, an elderly security guard, who had been listening from a nearby bench, called out to her.
“Madam.”
She stopped.
“You were at the hospital that night, weren’t you?”
His question caught her by surprise.
“Yes.”
The guard glanced towards the hospital entrance before speaking again.
“I’ve worked around here for years.”
His voice dropped to a whisper.
“I’ve seen many accidents.”
He paused.
“But that night… something didn’t feel right.”
Before Shalini could ask another question, a white hospital vehicle pulled up outside.
The old guard immediately fell silent.
He stood, adjusted his cap, and walked away without another word.
Shalini watched him disappear into the crowd.
Whatever he had been about to say, someone—or something—had stopped him.
