Progress over Perfection

This week’s post on health is Progress over Perfection. Many times, we look for perfection in our work. But, like Eminent Psychiatrist Dr. Devendra Save explains, how Progress over Perfection would serve us better.

Progress over Perfection

According to Dr. Devendra Save, “Perfectionism, in psychology, is a personality trait characterized by a person striving for flawlessness and setting high performance standards, accompanied by critical self-evaluations and concerns regarding others’ evaluations. In its maladaptive form, perfectionism drives people to attempt to achieve unattainable ideals or unrealistic goals, often leading to depression and low self-esteem. Trying to be perfect can get in the way of healthy changes you’re trying to make. Learn how focusing on progress — not perfection — can put you on a path to success. Focusing on progress, instead of perfection, can make it much easier and enjoyable to reach your goals.”

Here he enumerates some benefits of focusing on progress:

  1. It motivates you to keep going.
  2. It encourages a mindset of learning, not failure.
  3. It gives you more reasons to celebrate.
  4. It’s sustainable.
