Ramanuj Mukherjee – Simplifying Legal Learning Through iPleaders (IInd and Concluding Part)

We are continuing with the interview of iPleaders’ Ramanuj Mukherjee, today:

What is iPleaders all about?

iPleaders is about making legal knowledge and insights accessible to everyone. We make/offer legal online courses. The online courses are crafted to cater to the needs of an individual. Through our YouTube channel LawShikho also we try to reach the people and make law accessible to them. We also have a forum where people can ask legal questions and get answers. We have also worked with companies like Samsung and Microsoft for training their employees in the legal field and imparting knowledge of the law.

Describe your journey from 2010 till now.

It has always been a balancing act. It was always about surviving so that we can grow. So many years down the line it definitely feels easier as we have gained traction, followers and loyal customers, who say good things about us, a team. It didn’t start like this. When we began, the struggle was about launching one good course, about selling that one course, about making enough so that we can pay the rent. Then, one huge problem was hiring. It took us at least a year to hire the first employee despite having the money because nobody would trust to join a company without any proper office or reputation in the market. Getting the first office was a challenge too. People didn’t easily trust 3 young people running a company. Landlords will even want to see our passbook to know if we were making any real money!

We had some really big scares too, sometimes, as our payments got held up. Sometimes we grew and struggled to pay salary on time. With time, things have become much better though. Sometimes I wonder if we made a mistake by deciding to never raise investments despite having willing investors. And then, I look how far we have come without it and then, feel vindicated that we will walk the rest of the path on our own too.

What is your support system?

I have a very supportive co-founder, Abhyuday Agarwal. Also, the core team of iPleaders is extremely supportive and loving. We are a family to each other, in times of difficulty I am never alone – they always stand like pillars with me. I have some excellent entrepreneur friends, who always motivate me. I also read a lot of good books. I generally surround myself with non-fiction, self-development books from which I can learn new ideas and new skills. Whenever I am low-spirited, I take out some time to read. It always rejuvenates me and helps me get new ideas.

What are your future plans?

At iPleaders, the 2018-19 financial year is about growing LawSikho into a powerful brand within the legal industry. We have been also launching a lot of brand new courses. We hope to end the year with over 100 new courses. We are planning to enter the corporate training market in a bigger way this year. In the coming months, we will be launching a new microlearning application and we are excited about it.
