I am not going to post a joke on this day called the All Fools Day. But, I am sharing a real-life incident that happened with one of the girls in our group – Gauri (name changed at request).
All the students called her dumb. The other teachers made fun of her behind her back. The reason, she had pronounced a word – genre different from the principal. Gauri was doing 2 jobs at the school, for one pay. A full day’s job at half day’s pay. She tolerated everything because she wanted to buy a computer, which she thought would give her better opportunities.
Things came to such a head that a student came to hit her in front of several other students and teachers. Gauri did not leave it at that. She hit him back boldly. The teachers’ and principal’s apathy made her decide to leave the school.
Later, she found out that the student had gone out of hand and had to be referred to the school counselor. Gauri, when she eventually bought a computer, also found out through google that she was right about the pronunciation of the word.
Today, she is the storehouse of knowledge in our group. Whenever we ask her something, her replies encourage us to do further reading about the topic. She explains things so interestingly. I suppose the school’s loss is our gain! What say?
