The Hospital That Refused to Treat – Chapter 30
Chapter 30: A Name Without a Face
The empty cassette cover lay on Joseph’s dining table.
For several minutes, none of them spoke.
Finally, Prakash broke the silence.
“If someone from the hospital collected the copy after Ramesh’s death, they must have known exactly what they were looking for.”
Joseph nodded.
“They didn’t search the house. They came for one cassette.”
Lata closed her eyes.
“I never questioned him. He showed me an identity card and spoke politely. I assumed he was helping us.”
“Do you remember his name?” Shalini asked gently.
Lata shook her head.
“No. But…” She hesitated. “He wasn’t wearing a doctor’s coat.”
“What was he wearing?”
“A grey suit.”
Shalini’s heart skipped a beat.
She looked at Joseph.
“The administrator.”
Joseph didn’t answer immediately.
“It could be,” he said. “Or it could be someone else. We can’t jump to conclusions.”
Lata frowned.
“I remember one more thing.”
The three leaned forward.
“He wasn’t alone.”
“Who was with him?” Joseph asked.
“I never saw the other man properly. He stayed outside near the car.”
“Can you describe him?”
“He was tall. That’s all I remember.”
Joseph scribbled a few notes in his notebook.

As they prepared to leave, Lata stopped Shalini at the door.
“My husband often mentioned someone called ‘Sir.'”
“‘Sir’?”
“He never used a name. Just ‘Sir knows everything’ or ‘Sir will never let this come out.'”
Outside, the evening breeze rustled the leaves of the old banyan tree.
Joseph looked thoughtfully at his notebook.
“So now we have a new mystery.”
“What mystery?” Prakash asked.
Joseph closed the notebook.

“We’re no longer looking for a missing cassette.”
He glanced towards the road.
“We’re looking for a man everyone called ‘Sir’—a man important enough that even after all these years, no one dares to speak his name.”
